Deviation Actions
I've written and deleted this journal several times now, but this time it is staying up.
I have not received a single worthy DD suggestion in months, and am still getting between 5 and 10 suggestions per day. The lack of common sense being displayed has worsened to a degree that I am starting to feel that people simply have no respect for my time. I used to reply to every single suggestion, but have been so inundated with ridiculous notes that I simply don't bother any more. The situation has worsened since the advent of the 'Suggest DD' script that has been developed that now allows people to automatically note me from the deviation page, and even contains a feature that has the audacity to suggest that the suggester would like me to use their (usually poorly spelled and typo riddled) text as the description!
Below are my ground rules, that I have stated a million times over the six years I have been a staff member. I post them again as a last ditch effort in the hopes of people regaining their respect for both the DD and the real people with full time jobs who are the staff members that volunteer to select them;
1. I will only accept digital artworks. This means no photography, and no poetry.
2. The work must be of an exceptional standard. I don't care if the artist who made it is the loveliest person of all time - the artwork must be brilliant. It is possible that I have higher standards than most - my benchmark is the depthcore.com collective - if the work is not of the same standard as the guys I interact with on a daily basis, then you can bet your bottom dollar they will not be getting any kind of feature from me. Which leads nicely to..
3. Do not suggest the work of depthCORE members. Believe it or not, I'm probably a little more familiar with their galleries than you are, and will feature them of my own volition.
4. Do not suggest pieces that have over 100 favourites. This number used to be lower, but increased traffic around these parts makes 100 a reasonable number. I've been getting notes for pieces with over 3000 favs. What possible good will it do an artist to feature a piece that is already so well exposed? It's just common sense.
5. I didn't think I needed to mention this, but following several comments and suggestions, it's evident that I do; Don't suggest yourself, it makes you look like a wanker.
And that's it! Not hard! Not demanding! Nothing outside of common sense and courtesy.
I hope it goes without saying that henceforth, all suggestions I receive that do not meet these simple criteria will continue to be ignored. I can't tell you how disappointed and frustrated I am at having been put in the position where I need to write such a negative journal entry.
Bah.

We wanted to share what we're working on as a team so that the road ahead is visible to all. There's still a lot of work to be done, and then a lot more to come (Team Birthday Notifications and the Drag n Drop Fav Squad - we see you!). I'm really excited about launching the sidebar and improvements to Posts. Once that stuff is out in the world it'll be time to shift a huge amount of focus to Groups - my abiding passion. Anything coming up you're excited for? Uncertain about?

I want to thank everyone who has written to me over the last few days. Whether it was positive or negative, I appreciate encountering real passion in whatever form it takes. I wrote what is below in response to a thoughtful comment I received, and felt it might be worth sharing with anyone who comes across my page in the days to come. Change can be difficult, I really do understand this. It's especially difficult because this update is such a large one. Usually updates are rolled out more incrementally on networks like ours, so the differences are less glaring. Unfortunately the old version of DA did not get this steady diet of modifications over the years, so this redesign feels a little more jarring as we give the site it's first rejuvenation in many years. We've written personal and public statements saying we're listening to concerns but honestly they mainly fall on deaf ears. I get why too - take an instance where people ask for a change or a feature and we totally agree and
