The heart of deviantART has left the building.

I will miss you Scott.

I don't think most people will fully comprehend what this means. Jark was such an integral part of the ethos and mystery that makes deviantART so great, and has made it endure so long. I won't pretend that I'm an important enough member of staff to have been in on exactly what anyone does in the core staff, I'd say that average user has a better idea than me.

What I do know is that Scott helped to create a sense of mystery and intrigue that has always permeated the little corridors and alleyways of this website. He has always been a part of that intangible presence that makes this place so goddamned addictive, so absorbing, so enchanting. He was the heart of the magic that makes this place a part of your life, as opposed to a site you visit.

You owe him a lot more than you probably realise. If he hadn't been himself, and hadn't make this place what it is, I wouldn't be a designer, I wouldn't be an artist, and I would have missed out on all the fun I've had over the last four years in this extraordinary community. I would have never started depthcore, which would have had it's own set of ramifications and consequences for another set of people.

You owe him a lot more than you realise.

We are all poorer for losing him. He is being replaced by someone who is capable and competent in Richard, and indeed this is the only appointment I can fathom approving in the face of a loss like this, but that's not what this journal is about.

This journal is about taking a second to stop, think, and give gratitude and thanks to a man who brought a little magic into our lives.

I will miss you Scott.
